The Arthur Rank Hospice Star Shine Stroll 2016

On Saturday 14th May 2016 a team of 10 from Gibbs Denley headed out to Great Shelford, just south of Cambridge, for Arthur Rank Hospice’s Star Shine Stroll. This annual memory walk starts and finishes at Shelford Rugby Club, with 6.5 mile and 10 mile routes taking walkers into Cambridge and back out again.

The walk was filled to capacity, with 500 people walking and a hoarde of volunteers organising registrations, refreshments, and making sure we all knew where to go. The sun was shining, and the air was full of energy.

This year the theme for the walk was “shine and sparkle” – an idea that Director Paul Gibbs took to heart, wearing a very fetching gold sequined jacket.

We entered a team of 10 people from both our Cambridge office and our Bury St Edmunds office, with everyone completing the 10 miles walk – that’s 100 miles between us!

Left to right: Director Paul Gibbs, Adele McCormick (Corporate Renewals Manager), Olivia Dixon (Trainee Schools and Student Travel Account Handler), Pauline Brunning (Insurer Accounts), Vince Migliorini (Account Handler Personal Lines), Michael Bretherick (Associate Director), Jaime Keeble (Client Manager, Advisory). Bottom row: Lee Armstrong (Training and Compliance Manager) and Megan Entecott (Marketing Co-ordinator). Not pictured but also on the team is Sally Keys (Client Manager, Administration).

The Star Shine Stroll is both a fundraiser and a chance for people to remember their loved ones. Director Paul Gibbs walked in memory of his father, Derrick Gibbs, co-founder of Gibbs Denley. You can read Paul’s story on the Arthur Rank Hospice website.

We broke into several smaller groups, allowing people to walk at a pace that suited them, taking between 2 hrs 15 and 3 hrs 20.

Gibbs Denley have sponsored the Star Shine Stroll every year since 2009. This year, Paul gave a short welcome to the gathered walkers before heading out on the road with them. You can watch a short video of his speech here:

A massive well done to everyone who took part, and thank you to Arthur Rank Hospice and the volunteers who all helped to ensure that the day ran smoothly.
