Meet the Team – Michael Bretherick, Associate Director

Michael Bretherick, Associate DirectorMichael Bretherick is another of the Gibbs Denley Professional Development Programme success stories. He began working for Gibbs Denley in 2003, after seeing a job advert for a Trainee Administrator and realising that financial planning was right up his street. Since then, he has worked hard to progress. He has passed over 16 exams and achieved Chartered Financial Planner status in 2015. He is now one of 6 Associate Directors at Gibbs Denley.

As a financial adviser, Michael mostly deals with clients who are heading towards retirement and have accumulated substantial savings they wish to manage better and/or pensions that they want advice on taking benefits and planning for the future. His job is to assess a client’s circumstances before laying out a plan that takes a holistic view of where they are now, and where they wish to be in the future.

“For me, the most important part of the client relationship is trust,” Michael says. “If a client can’t trust us to provide thorough advice that is also simple to understand and doesn’t rely on jargon to bamboozle, then they can’t trust that we are offering them the right solution.”

Although Michael’s main duties are to provide financial advice to clients, he also mentors other members of the financial services admin team, helping them to learn about financial planning and working with them on their own professional development and exams.

Michael lives in Longstanton with his wife Kelly and their son Samuel, who was born at the end of 2016. For the last 12 years, Michael has played guitar in a band. Until recently, they have played at Weddings and events, but the band has begun to play less often as their focus moves to their families. He has also played amateur football – and still does when he gets the chance.
