Meet the Team: Siobhan Cordery, Chartered Financial Planner

Siobhan joined the financial services industry at Old Mutual in South Africa after talking to a friend who worked there and realising that it sounded like exactly the sort of career she was looking for. When she moved to the UK a year later she knew that she wanted to remain working in financial services.  Although the legislation was different to South Africa, the fundamentals of forming client relationships was very much the same, and she quickly brought her knowledge in line with UK regulation.

In June 2012, after 11 years at IFG Financial Services, Siobhan took the next step in her personal development moving across the car park to work at Gibbs Denley. Her friends and family joked with her that it was fate, as her sense of direction was notoriously terrible and she at least wouldn’t get lost coming to work! In the 5 years since she has joined Gibbs Denley she has completed her Advanced Diploma in Financial Services and gained Chartered Financial Planner status. She is on track to gain Fellowship with the CII by October 2017.

While working with Mark Denley, Siobhan has gained a great deal of experience with High Net Worth clients and Small Self-Administered Schemes. Of particular interest to her are retirement planning and Inheritance Tax planning – areas where she knows that the work she carries out will make a significant difference to clients and their families. Many of her clients are approaching retirement and are looking for advice on how to receive their money in the most tax-efficient way in order to support them through their retirement.

Every client is different and Siobhan enjoys delivering holistic advice that ensures all areas of financial planning work in synergy to achieve clients’ objectives. She says: “For me, the most important aspect in any relationship is trust. It is no different with clients – they need to know and trust that we have their best interests at heart. Not as a one-off transaction, but as a continuous and evolving relationship.”

Siobhan lives in north Cambridgeshire, with her partner and son – weekends are often spent supporting her son from the sidelines at football matches. She finds that the most chilled part of her day is putting in her headphones and going for a run, and she is also a keen supporter of the South African cricket and rugby teams. She also enjoys travelling, heading back to Cape Town to visit friends and family as often as she can.
